Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information LoanSharks.com collects when you visit, why, and what happens to it. It was last updated on September 27, 2026 and replaces all earlier versions. The short version: we collect little, we sell nothing, and you can read everything on this site without telling us who you are.

What we collect

Visit statistics. We use a third-party analytics and logging service to understand how the site is used. It records your IP address, browser and device information, the pages you view, the referring source such as a search engine, and the time of your visit, and it sets a cookie to distinguish repeat visits. We use this in aggregate, to see which guides help people and where readers come from.

Server logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting infrastructure keeps standard technical logs of requests, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.

Comments. If you choose to leave a comment, we collect the name and email address you provide, your comment, and your IP address. Comment submissions are checked by an automated spam filtering service. Commenting is entirely optional.

Login security. The site’s login page uses a CAPTCHA service to block automated attacks, which processes technical information about the visitor. This affects people logging into the site, not ordinary readers.

What we deliberately do not collect

  • No financial information, ever. We are an education site, not a lender: there are no applications, no forms asking about your debts, and no accounts required to read anything.
  • Our calculators run entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter are never sent to us or stored by us.
  • We do not buy data about you, combine our logs with outside data to identify you, or track you across other websites.

Cookies

Three kinds of cookies can appear here: the analytics cookie described above, optional convenience cookies WordPress sets if you comment (so your name and email are remembered next time), and technical cookies connected to login security. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, and the site remains fully readable without them.

How we use information

Visit statistics tell us which pages are useful and where to improve. Logs and security data protect the site from abuse. Comment information displays your comment. That is the complete list. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for their marketing, and we never share anything with lenders of any kind.

Some commercial pages may contain affiliate links, as described in our disclosure. Clicking one takes you to a third party site that applies its own tracking under its own privacy policy; we do not pass them personal information about you.

Third parties

The services that help run this site, our analytics and logging provider, spam filtering, CAPTCHA provider, and hosting, each process the technical data described above under their own privacy policies. Links to outside organizations, such as government agencies and nonprofits on our resource pages, lead to sites we do not control; their privacy practices are their own.

Retention and your choices

Analytics data and logs are kept only as long as needed for the purposes above. Comments remain published until removed. If you would like a comment or the personal information connected with it deleted, or want to ask anything about your data, contact us through the about page and we will act on reasonable requests promptly.

Children

This site deals with debt, illegal lending, and personal safety, and is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and no part of the site is designed to attract children.

International visitors

LoanSharks.com is operated from the United States, written for a United States audience, and its data is processed in the United States. If you visit from elsewhere, you are welcome here, and the information above describes exactly what is collected; local resources in your country will serve you better for jurisdiction-specific help, as most of our guidance concerns US law.

Changes to this policy

If our data practices change, this page will change first, with the date above updated. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the current version.

Plain-language summary: we count visits with a standard analytics tool that logs IP address and browser and sets a cookie, we keep ordinary server logs, and we hold whatever you type into a comment. Nothing else. Nothing is sold, and the calculators never see your numbers leave your browser.
